Interactive painting
with children
Richard Heley and Seema
Gill Heley provide fun and learning interactive painting workshops
for children aged 5-11 in schools, festivals, galleries, clubs and childrens
parties. We can also film the event, run exciting poetry workshops,
tell childrens stories and even produce books of drawings and poems.
What is Interactive painting
?
To our commissioner we bring pre primed boards, fastened to a softwood
frame, to paint on and best quality artists oil pastels for the children
to draw with. All we need is a wall to lean the board against.
Children are given best quality artists oil pastels and invited to make
drawings on the hardboard. We will guide them through the drawing process,
stimulating imaginations and giving design, colour and drawings tips.
At the end of the workshop the children will have covered the board
with drawings. Richard and Seema then take the board back to their art
studios and paint around the childrens drawings creating a fantastic
background.
The combination of the dreaming power and drawing charm of children,
combined with the design and paint skills of artists has seen some truly
joyous and beautiful results. The paintings are then varnished and returned
to the commissioner for them to keep.
We like to work with 6ft by 4ft hardboards or plywood if you want to
place the finished painting outside. You can commission as many boards
as you want. We can also discus working with custom sized boards if
you choose
Interactive painting has proved to be very popular. The children get
a great boost in self esteem, have a fun time and get to work and discuss
painting with professional artists....and remember, you get to keep
and display a beautiful and valuable piece of art.

Opposite is a 6ftx4ft panel commissioned by Nottingham
City Arts for the Lift project at Mary Potter Health Centre in Hyson
Green, Nottingham. Drawings by children from St Mary's Primary School
in Radford. One of four panels (2 more from Islamia School, Radford),
all of which were then painted by Richard and Seema in their studios.
